AKWESASNE MOHAWK POLICE SEIZE GUNS, DRUGS, AND CASH

On Friday evening, Feb. 2, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m., the Joint Investigation Team of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service executed a search warrant at a Kawehno:ke (Cornwall Island) residence.


The search operation was carried out by both investigators and patrol officers of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service with the assistance of an Ontario Provincial Police K9 and lasted over two hours. Details of the investigation cannot be released as the warrant was issued with a Sealing Order by the issuing Justice.


During the search, police officers seized the following:

  • Two 9-millimeter caliber handguns loaded with ammunition
  • One .380 automatic pistol
  • One shotgun rifle
  • One AR-15 Assault Rifle
  • Approximately 3 ounces of cocaine with an estimated value of $9,000
  • Canadian currency
  • Ammunition, weigh scales and packaging materials

As a result of the search warrant, police have grounds to arrest one Akwesasne male for numerous charges related to firearms and drug offences. A warrant of arrest will be sought at the Cornwall Provincial Court and is expected to be issued early this week.
