ENHANCING COMMUNITY SAFETY: INSTALLATION OF STREET CAMERAS IN AKWESASNE

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service, with the support of Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, is taking proactive steps to enhance community safety and security with the installation of community safety street cameras throughout our jurisdiction. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a secure environment for all community members. Installations have begun and will continue until the project is completed throughout our jurisdiction. The southern portion of Akwesasne has already implemented their initiative, and we can see the value of it.

The decision to implement community safety street cameras comes after careful consideration and collaboration with community leaders. These cameras will serve as a valuable tool in deterring crime, promoting accountability, and assisting law enforcement in their efforts to maintain public safety throughout our area.

Key features of the community safety camera initiative include:

  1. Comprehensive Coverage: Strategically placed cameras will provide comprehensive coverage of key areas within Akwesasne.
  2. 24/7 Monitoring: The cameras will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ensuring continuous monitoring of our community spaces.
  3. Crime Prevention: The presence of street cameras has been shown to deter criminal activity, making communities safer for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
  4. Enhanced Emergency Response: In the event of an emergency, community safety cameras will provide valuable visual information to emergency responders, enabling faster and more effective response times.
  5. Community Partnership: This initiative underscores the importance of community partnership and collaboration in addressing safety concerns and creating a secure environment for all.

We recognize that privacy is of utmost importance, and safeguards will be in place to ensure that the privacy rights of individuals are respected. Access to camera footage will be strictly controlled and used solely for law enforcement and public safety security purposes. All community safety street cameras are placed in public places directed at our means of transportation routes.

As we move forward with the installation of the community safety street cameras, we encourage community members to remain vigilant and continue to prioritize safety in their daily lives. Together, we can build a stronger, safer Akwesasne for generations to come.

We are committed to the safety and well-being of all Akwesasne community members. The installation of the community safety street cameras represents a proactive step towards creating a secure environment where everyone can thrive. We thank the community for their support and cooperation as we work together to enhance public safety in Akwesasne.
