POLICE SEEK FURTHER ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING REMAINS

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service is continuing an investigation into the human remains found inside a casket that was located on the grounds of the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Kana:takon.

On August 18, 2022, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police attended the area after a group of volunteers performing a maintenance detail inside the cemetery discovered the remains within a partially buried casket. An investigation began to learn more about the deceased in hopes of confirming the identity.

At the onset of the investigation, investigators believed the deceased to be an older male, possibly balding. The remains showed that the individual had a full set of teeth at the time of passing, and the male was buried inside a stainless-steel casket.

Investigators believe based on additional findings that the deceased male’s first name may have been Alfred; he would have been approximately 65 years of age at the time of passing and would have been originally buried during the month of September. The year of passing is unknown and cannot be determined at this time. This investigation is still ongoing.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police encourage anyone that may know the identity of the deceased to please contact the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service at 613-575-2000.
