AKWESASNE MOHAWK POLICE SEIZE 150 LBS OF CANNABIS

On June 7, 2020, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Marine Unit (SAVE) was conducting pro-active marine patrols on the St. Lawrence River monitoring boating activity.

On this date police observed a vessel attend a private landing in Tsi Snaihne (Snye). As police attempted to stop the vessel the driver and passenger both fled on foot in an attempt to evade police. A short foot pursuit was initiated and one of the individuals surrendered to police.

Police searched the vessel and located 10 black garbage bags containing 150 lbs. of illicit cannabis. The vessel and cannabis were seized as a result of the investigation. A further search revealed a small plastic bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be an illicit substance.

Tracey M. Oakes 46, of Akwesasne currently faces the alleged charges of Distribution over 30 grams, Distribution of illicit cannabis, Possession of a controlled substance, and Obstruct Police.
