AMPS SEEKS ASSISTANCE IDENTIFYING REMAINS FOUND AT ST. LAWRENCE CEMETERY
On Thursday, August 18, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police were called to investigate human remains found inside a partially-buried casket that was located on the grounds of the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Kana:takon.
Police attended after being notified of the findings by a group of volunteers performing a maintenance detail inside the cemetery. The remains were transferred into the custody of the Provincial Coroner in Montreal. Further investigation is being conducted to learn more about the deceased in hopes of confirming the identity.
Investigators believe the deceased to be an older male, possibly balding. The remains show that the individual had a full set of teeth at the time of his passing. The male was believed to have been buried inside a stainless-steel casket.
