INVESTIGATION OF BODIES DISCOVERED CONTINUES IN AKWESASNE

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police are providing an update regarding the recovery of several bodies in the Akwesasne territory on March 30 and March 31, 2023.
 
A total of eight bodies were recovered in total. The circumstances surrounding the deaths continue to be investigated by the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service in collaboration with Homeland Security Investigations, Massena. An essential part of this investigation is determining whether or not this travel was facilitated by an individual or individuals.
 
The investigation is still in its early stages, and investigators are still trying to determine the timeline of events that resulted in the tragic loss of lives.
 
On April 12, 2023, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service seized two vehicles believed to be related to the investigation. The two vehicles were seized separately, from two different locations. Sealed search warrant applications have been obtained to examine the vehicles.
 
The Akwesasne Mohawk Police will not be releasing information of the registered owners of the vehicles seized. The seizures were executed in Kawehno:ke (Cornwall Island, Akwesasne, Ontario) and in Tsi Snaihne (Snye, Akwesasne, Quebec).
 
The Akwesasne Mohawk Police have identified persons of interest and have made attempts to locate and speak with them.
