NON-INSURED HEALTH BENEFITS PROGRAM REMINDS COMMUNITY OF PRESCRIPTION DRUG COVERAGE CRITERIA

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s (MCA) Non-Insured Health Benefits (ANIHB) Program is reminding community members of the criteria for prescription drug coverage. To qualify for ANIHB coverage, one must be registered with the Mohawks of Akwesasne, be a resident of Canada, and possess a valid provincial health card (OHIP, QHIP/RAMQ, etc.).

ANIHB is able to provide coverage for prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications, as well as exception drugs. In order to get coverage for exception drugs, individuals must obtain a prescription and take that to their pharmacist. The pharmacist will contact ANIHB to obtain approval upon which ANIHB will process approval. Upon approval, the pharmacist will contact the individual.

Community members can review the NIHB Drug Benefits List (DBL) to determine if a prescription drug is covered under the NIHB program. This list can be found at the following link: https://nihb-ssna.express-scripts.ca/en/0205140506092019/16/160407. The DBL contains the drugs that are included in the NIHB program, which are primarily used in a home or ambulatory setting.

For questions regarding ANIHB’s prescription drug coverage, please contact the ANIHB program at 613-575-2341, Ext. 3340, or ask to speak to a Benefits Analyst. Community members can also call NIHB’s direct line at 613-575-1161, or 1-888-514-1966.
