COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES WELCOMES NEW ACTING ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH/INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL PROGRAM MANAGER

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Community Health Services (formerly known as the Community Health Program) would like to announce that Misty Lazore has been named as Acting Program Manager for the Environmental Health/Infection Prevention and Control Program (EH/IPAC). Misty brings many years of nursing experience in various healthcare and teaching settings.

Misty graduated from the Iohahi:io Nursing Program in 2004. She began her nursing career working as a Registered Nurse at Iakhihsohtha Lodge, working for half her career in Long-Term Care settings: at the Iakhihsohtha Lodge, Tsiionkwanonhso:te Long-Term Care Facility, as well as other First Nations LTC settings. Misty also took on a teaching role for a short time, where she instructed Personal Support Workers (PSW’s) and practical nurses at Iohahi:io in both Theory & Clinical courses.

The remainder of Misty’s career has been spent in Community Health, serving as a Community Health Nurse, and most recently, as the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Registered Nurse (RN). It was during this time that Misty received her certificate in Infection Prevention and Control with Queen’s University. In her capacity as IPAC RN, she worked with the Environmental Health Officer (EHO) and other MCA programs including the AMBE schools, childcare centres, and LTC facilities to provide IPAC guidance and education, as well as providing IPAC guidance to the community of Akwesasne. Misty looks forward to being part of the changes and improvements that are currently underway within the Department of Health.
