COMMUNITY UPDATE REGARDING THE FEDERAL INDIAN DAY SCHOOL CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne invites all community members who were former students at any of the former Federal Indian Day Schools to attend a community update on Monday, October 28 at the Kana:takon Recreation Center at 5p.m. Updates about the Federal Indian Day School Class Action Settlement and the claims process will be given from Gowling WLG, the class counsel for the settlement.

Information regarding the settlement and the draft claim form can be found at the claim website www.indiandayschools.com under the “Documents” button. Former students will receive notice when the claim forms are finalized and ready for submission.

Former students who wish to opt-out of the settlement have 90 days from August 19, 2019 to file an opt-out form. Opt-out forms can also be found on the Indian Day School website. The deadline to submit an opt-out form is November 18, 2019.
