The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne would like to inform the community that our offices will be closed on Thursday, July 1.

Typically, this closure is in observance of Canada Day. However, in light of the horrific discoveries of unmarked graves on the grounds of residential schools across the nation, we will be using this day to reflect, remember, and honour the loss of innocent lives. As the truth of this genocidal system comes to light, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne demands a full investigation and accountability for the institutions and policies that allowed these atrocities. We stand behind our community, our brothers and sisters across Turtle Island, and those who continue the ongoing fight for justice.

There will be a community march held at Generations Park on July 1 starting at 1 p.m. Akwesasronon are invited to join the condolence ceremony as we work to support those healing from the harrowing realities of the residential school system.

For those suffering from trauma invoked by the recall of past abuse, help is here for you. Please contact the MCA Wholistic Health & Wellness Program at 613-575-2341 ext. 3115 for counselling, resources, and more.

Essential services and 24-hour care facilities will remain operational. Offices will resume normal business hours on Friday, July 2.
