MCA REPORTS TWO NEW POSITIVE CASES OF COVID-19

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Community Health Program reports two (2) new positive PCR cases of COVID-19 in the northern portion of the community, as of January 19, 2022.

Current COVID-19 Statistics for the Northern Portion of Akwesasne:
New Positive PCR Cases: 2
Current Active: 13
Total Cases: 747
COVID-Related Passings: 12

According to Public Health Agencies across Ontario, Positive (+)  Rapid Antigen Tests do NOT need to be reported.

However, the MCA Department of Health and existing inter-agency partners decided to make self-reporting of + results an option so we have a better idea of the impact of COVID on our community.

With the recent changes in isolation and quarantine guidance, reporting on active cases in this weekly cluster will only be reported as a number of + antigen tests. The assumption should be made that at the time of the reporting date, some cases may be active, and most cases will have been cleared from isolation at time of reporting.

With regard to PCR covid + results, those numbers will be reported as total number of cases, daily new cases, and daily active cases.

The Department of Health would like to remind the community that we need your assistance to slow/stop the spread of COVID-19 by strictly adhering to the public health measures that have been put in place. Wash and sanitize hands frequently, wear a mask/face covering when out in public, and maintain six feet of distance from anyone outside your household.

It is of the utmost importance to get tested for COVID-19 at the onset of any symptoms, regardless of your vaccination status, even if you feel your symptoms are a common cold or allergies.
