MCA’S 10 P.M. CURFEW REMAINS IN EFFECT; NO EXTENSION TO 50-MILE RADIUS
For Immediate Release:
Ohiari:ha/June 27, 2020
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is continuing with a community curfew of 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. throughout its jurisdiction in efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. MCA also continues to advise anyone returning from outside a 50-mile radius to quarantine for 14 days upon their return to Akwesasne. This includes travel for work, school, release from incarceration or any essential or non-essential purpose.
MCA acknowledges that the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has extended their recommended radius to 100-miles in the southern territory and that the curfew in the southern district has been eased to 11 p.m. – 5 a.m. as well. However, in careful consideration of the continued spread of COVID-19 in northern cities such as Ottawa and Montreal, MCA’s recommendations remain unchanged. The curfew remains in effect from 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. and the travel radius continues to be 50 miles/80 km.
We strongly urge the community to take precautions to avoid the spread of the virus within our community. While we receive direction and guidance from health authorities such as the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, Akwesasne has maintained restrictions above and beyond those recommendations for the health and safety of our community, especially our most vulnerable.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Akwesasne safe.
Further precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 include regular hand washing and maintaining six feet of distance between you and others. Face masks are recommended when social distancing isn’t possible.
