MCGILL MEDICAL STUDENTS VISIT AKWESASNE, KANONHKWA’TSHERI:IO

On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, the Department of Health hosted medical students from McGill University at the Kanonhkwa’tsheri:io Health Facility (KHF). The medical students in attendance were in their fourth year of study and the trip was a part of an elective course of study they were enrolled in called “Putting It Into Practice (PIAT) Indigenous Health Med 4 Selective.”

The trip to Akwesasne was organized by McGill Indigenous Health Curriculum Interim Director/Indigenous Health Professions Program Director, Dr. Sarah Rourke. During their visit, the students were provided with a tour of the Kanonhkwa’tsheri:io Health Facility, a presentation from the Land-Based Healing program, provided information on the various health programs offered through the Department of Health, and had a question and answer session with Health Portfolio Chief, Dwayne Thomas. After the Q&A session, the students were then provided with a tour of the Akwesasne Museum.

The Department of Health wishes the visiting students the best in their educational and medical endeavors and thank the students for their interest in Indigenous Health, and for their interest in the Akwesasne territory.
