PURSUIT IN KANA:TAKON LEADS TO ARREST

On the evening of July 26, 2020, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service were notified of an individual driving in Kana:takon (St. Regis) with an active arrest warrant. Police were provided a description of the suspect vehicle and the identity of the person who was wanted.

At approximately 6:18 PM, police observed the suspect vehicle traveling on Hill Top Drive approaching the intersection of Third Street. As Police activated the emergency equipment the vehicle fled. A brief pursuit was initiated to the intersection on Third Street and Johnson Road where police were blocking the roadway. The suspect vehicle entered the yard of a private dwelling attempting to flee from police. Police units did surround (Box in) the suspect vehicle to avoid further continuation of the pursuit.

Katsitsia Smoke, age 26, of Akwesasne is facing the alleged charges of Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Failure To Comply with Undertaking. The female further faces criminal charges of Unlawfully in a Dwelling, and Fail to Comply with Undertaking stemming from an active arrest warrant.

As a result of this investigation police have received a number of threats on Social Media. Police are taking these threats very serious and the threats are currently being investigated.
