RECENT INCREASE IN ILLEGAL ENTRIES TO COMMUNITY

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police have noted a recent increase in illegal entries into Akwesasne through our lands and waterways.

We would like to remind the community that human smuggling is a crime and poses serious concerns for not only the individual(s) committing the act but the entire community of Akwesasne. The nature of human smuggling and recent weather conditions have resulted in our first responders being put at risk when completing lifesaving events. In the past few days, immigrants have required transportation to the hospital which not only is a concern for their health, but also reduces our own ambulance availability in Akwesasne.

While human smuggling in our community is a public safety concern, please be reminded that illegal immigrants are human beings. These individuals are still deserving of respect and should not be exploited for monetary gain. We are asking the community to be cautious and to remember that the risks outweigh any monetary reward.

If you see something, say something. Please report any suspicious activity or persons in the area to the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (613-575-2000), Akwesasne Crime Stoppers (613-575-2255), or the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police (518-358-9200).
