TWO ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING

On Saturday, September 21, 2019, shortly before 7:00AM, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service were conducting general patrol in the district of Tsi Snaihne when a vehicle proceeded through an intersection, without conducting a proper stop.

After the vehicle was pulled over, police detected the odor of an alcoholic substance. A subsequent investigation lead to the arrest of the driver for operating a motor vehicle while impaired. The driver provided samples of his breath, which read more than double the legal limit.

A 31-year-old male from Akwesasne was charged with Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle and providing a breath sample of over .80 milligrams of alcohol.

On Sunday, September 22, 2019 shortly after 8:20AM, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service were called to the parking lot of the Peace Tree Mall in the district of Kawehno:ke, with respect to a report of a suspicious vehicle.

On arrival, police observed a lone male asleep in a vehicle. Police conducted a well-being check and when the male awoke, police detected several signs of impairment; in addition, open alcohol containers were located within the vehicle. The driver was requested to participate in a field sobriety test, which he failed. A police computer check further revealed the driver’s license was suspended.

As a result, the driver was arrested for impaired care and control of a motor vehicle. The driver later provided a sample of his breath, which were more than double the legal limit.

Police would like to remind the public of the hazards of operating any conveyance while under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants.
