AKWESASNE MOHAWK POLICE SEIZE 10 POUNDS OF CANNABIS

On December 5, 2019, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Save team were conducting a joint forces operation with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), monitoring activity on the St. Lawrence River.

At approximately 4:05 PM, a vessel was observed stationary in the water on the south-east tip of Cornwall Island, Ontario. A man was observed boarding the vessel carrying a large duffel bag.

The vessel departed traveling east. Police continued to monitor the vessel as it entered the Snye Channel and docked behind a residence. A male was observed exiting the vessel carrying the same large duffel bag. As police attended the scene the male dropped the duffel bag and entered a residence.

Police later entered the residence and arrested a 23-year-old male from Akwesasne with Possession of Illicit Cannabis, Possession Under 30 Grams, and Possession for the Purpose of Distribution Contrary to the Cannabis Act. The male was also charged with Unlawfully in a Dwelling House contrary to the Criminal Code. The vessel was also seized as it was used in the commission of the offense.
