HEALTH & DETOX CENTER STAFF ATTEND PRESENTATION ON SUBSTANCE USE HEALTH STRATEGY

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Department of Health (DOH) welcomed Nikolas Hotte, Program Manager for Substance Use Prevention, to the Sahatihahará:ne Detox Center today, Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Mr. Hotte presented various DOH staff with statistics around overdoses, poisoning, and fatalities in the Eastern Ontario catchment area and how developing a harm reduction strategy can support efforts to address these issues.

Mr. Hotte has spearheaded the organization of overdose and fatalities data in EOHU’s local catchment area and he organizes meetings with local service providers to review and update the data. Mr. Hotte has taken a strong stance on harm reduction, assisting individuals who struggle with substance use, and meeting them where they are in their addiction and sobriety journeys.

Staff at the Sahatihahará:ne Detox Center will continue to work with and establish a relationship with Mr. Hotte and the EOHU, ensuring the highest quality service is provided to Akwesasne’s clients.

The DOH extends its sincerest gratitude to Mr. Hotte for providing staff with an informative presentation. We look forward to continuing to build on the relationship with the Eastern Ontario Health Unit and Mr. Hotte to support those in need of addiction services.
